Building a Performance Generator Engine

Anyone who has built a car will know just how much of a money pit they are. While in one of my other projects I will be building a complete billet car, it will work out very time consuming and expensive. A lot of go-karts use a basic engine such as that from a generator. I decided to come up with a project that will turn one of these engines into something quite special. I picked a cheap 79cc engine rated at 3HP, 3600 rpm. My target is 20HP at around 12,000 rpm. The engine can be bought straight off the shelf if I break it, which is my intention. I will measure up the engine, test its performance and make modifications to those parts to show how to improve performance.

I move into my workshop 1st December, there will be no build progress until then. I will however dismantle the engine, measure every single part and then make a CAD file. I would also like to see the quality of the engine before I run it.
